HOUSTON: The 2nd International Conference on Genomics and Pharmacogenomics was held in Raleigh, North Carolina, during 8 – 10, September. Delegates came from China, Japan, U.K., Italy, USA, Canada, India, Brazil, Russia and many other countries. The conference covered a wide ranging series of topics in Genomics and its applications in Cancer research, Birth Defects, Diabetes, Drug research, Alzeheimer’s Disease, and and many other diseases and birth defects.

In his Keynote Address, Dr. Krishna Dronamraju issued a warning against misuse of genetic applications, and the need to be vigilant to maintain professional integrity and high standards. He emphasized the special contribution of Genomics to the development of vaccines for Ebola and Malaria which will be available soon for the mass market. He also warned against long term patents of discoveries, such as the genes for Breast Cancer (brc1 and brc2) and Ovarian Cancer which have blocked further research and Business development until the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that genes in isolation cannot be patented.

Dr. Krishna Dronamraju is the Founder-President of the Foundation for Genetic Research in Houston, Texas. He served on two Federal Advisory Committees of the U.S. Government in Health & Human Services and Agricultural Biotechnology. He is a Visiting Professor of the University of Paris, and an Honorary Research Fellow of the University Of London. He is the author of 20 books and over 200 research papers in Biotechnology and Genetics. The Foundation for Genetic Research, which he founded, has organized international conferences in many countries including China, India, U.K., France, Italy, USA and other countries.
