Annual Hindi Hasya Kavi Sammellan Once Again in Houston

HOUSTON: For the past seven years India Culture Center  Houston (ICC) and International Hindi Association (IHA) have brought a refreshing, enriching and fun filled entertainment to the residents of Greater Houston. Celebrity poets from India are invited to perform in different cities of USA once a year. The program has also been a great success with community support and the audience are enthralled by such performances.

This year on the evening of May 9 the Kavi Sammellan will feature Arun Gemini, a famous maestro of humor. He is a Haryanvi and one of the most popular humorist in India. He has toured the globe and is a recipient of various National awards. Another artist is Ved Prakash Ved who hails from Delhi. He is a leading satirist of eminence. He is a highly celebrated “Hasya vyang” poet and performed widely. He also is a recipient of numerous National Awards and will be visiting Houston for the first time.  The third artist this time is the well know poetess Ritu Goel. She writes on human relations and Bhav (emotions). She is a journalist by profession and has been associated with leading Media channels. She has to her credit as well many prestigious Awards.

These artists are going to reminiscence the audience on India’s political, social and cultural ethos with a rip roaring humor, a little satire and some heartwarming patriotism, weaved with intellect and idiocy resulting in pure delightful sprinkle of poetic jokes. All these poets have performed extensively over India, on radio and TV and conducted programs like Kavi Sammellans and Mushairas in many South Asian and Middle East countries. They are in the literary league of publishing books, poems and articles in magazines.

This program is another joint effort of ICC & IHA. It will start at India House at 5pm on May 9 and after the social hour and opening remarks the exciting evening reins of the program will be with the accomplished poets for the next nonstop 3 hours. The audience can buys the books and CDs of the poets at the event as well. The program is made possible by the combined efforts of ICC & IHA core committee members.
