HOUSTON: Over 80 professionals attended the IIT Alumni of Greater Houston (IITAGH) panel discussion on, “Finding the Perfect Job in Difficult Times,” on Thursday, April 30.  Many showed up early and got to network with their peers while enjoying the appetizer selection of fish tacos, chicken satay, quesadillas, hummus, spinach & artichoke dip, and beer and wine.

The event was kicked off by Pratish Kanani, the President of IITAGH, who welcomed everyone, provided an overview of IITAGH, highlighted a sampling of upcoming events, and asked them to sign up at the website. He then introduced the moderator for the evening, Sundy Srinivasan.

Sundy introduced each of the panelists and gave them 5 minutes for their prepared remarks before opening up the session and collecting the questions to ask the panelists.  The panelists included Pradeep Anand, President of Seeta Resources, Marie Bergeron, Director of Career Development at the Rice University Jones School of Business, and Ramesh Anand, President of American Personnel Resources LLC.  Pradeep started with defining a perfect job, and then talked about networking and its importance in finding the perfect job.  A summary of his notes are here.  Marie focused on what it takes for students to find a job and shared the importance of clearly articulating their story and understanding their transferable skills.  Ramesh talked about the role that headhunters play, and how to best utilize headhunters in the job search process.

After an hour and 15 minutes, the formal event came to an end, but the crowds remained for at least another hour asking 1-on-1 questions, and further networking with the group.  “This was an absolutely outstanding event and I really enjoyed listening to the panelists,” shared one of the attendees who had recently moved to Houston.  She further shared, “I am really looking forward to more of these kinds of events.”
