HOUSTON: On 11 December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared 21st June as the International Day of Yoga receiving broad support from 177 member states, including USA.  The declaration came after the call for the adoption of 21 June as International Day of Yoga by Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi during his address to UN General Assembly on September 27, 2014.

Consulate General of India, Houston would be celebrating the first International Day of Yoga in a befitting manner on Sunday, 21 June from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM at George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston, TX in close coordination with Patanjali Yogpeeth (USA) and numerous other Yoga schools / institutions, and other social and cultural organizations.  The IDY celebration would bring together a large number of Houstonians including elected officials, and institutions to perform Yoga and actively participate in a number of free interactive Yoga sessions featuring Yoga demonstration by experts, and a ‘Yoga Fair’.

The International Day of Yoga event at George R. Brown Convention Center is free and open to the public. We encourage interested participants to register online for free at the event website (http://iyogadayhouston.org/) which is mandatory for participation.   Kindly bring a photo ID.  For more details, please visit the website which will carry frequent updates about the event.
