USISEC Member Institutions, to set up Centers of Skills Excellence in India to Help with Prime Minister Modi “Skilled India, Successful India” Mission

HOUSTON: US India Skills & Education Council’s members delegation visited Ministry of Skills & Entrepreneurship, Government of India, Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), Government of Delhi, & National Skills Development Corporation in India from July 20-24, 2015. The delegation visit was intended to bring together the skills, training and technology community in the USA, India to discuss the challenges and possibilities for collaboration as a part of Government of India and Prime Minister’s Modi’s mission of Skilled India. Government of India aims to train over 40 crore (400 Million) people in India in different skills by 2022. The initiatives include National Skill Development Mission, National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship 2015, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) scheme and the Skill Loan scheme.

Delegation discussed about details of setting up of Center of Excellence in India in various sectors such as Healthcare, Manufacturing, Construction, Renewable Energy, People with Disabilities, Aviation, Retail & Media/Entertainment.

The delegation met with higher officials & Joint Secretary Pawan Agarwal of Ministry of Skills & Entrepreneurship, Dilip Chenoy & Rajiv Mathur from National Skills Development Corporation, Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Government, Shobha Mishra Ghosh, Sr. Director, FICCI, Prof Rajan Saxena, Vice Chancellor, NMIMS, Mumbai, CEOs of Industry and Sector Skills Councils, and several other personnel from Government of India & Private Sector.
