ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani government and internationally-condemned terrorist Hafiz Saeed have made twin attempts to aggravate the tension in Kashmir, where more than 20 people have died and nearly 300 been injured in clashes after the death of terrorist Burhan Wani on Friday night.

“The Prime Minister of Pakistan has expressed his deep shock at the killing of Kashmiri leader Burhan Wani and many other civilians by the Indian military and paramilitary forces,” said Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s office in a statement.

“We are quite confident and competent of finding solutions,” was the terse offering of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval; “we will not compromise on terrorism,” said union minister Venkaiah Naidu.

Wani, 22, who led the largest terror group in Kashmir, the Hizbul Mujahideen, was killed by security forces in Kashmir on Friday night. Since then, arson and violence have seared the state as thousands of Kashmiris have expressed their anger over his death, seen as stark evidence of the resurgence of militancy and its appeal among well-educated young men in the state.

Most of those killed in the violence between rock-throwing demonstrators and security officers were men under the age of 26.
