Kidambi Srikanth, the David worth becoming Goliath

The highest-ranked Indian male badminton player, Kidambi Srikanth will be the only player to represent the country in the men’s singles event at the 2016 Rio Olympics. And while going that extra yard – merely days before the games begin – is the need of the hour, Srikanth has had to endure a weary schedule off the badminton court.

This month itself, the shuttler from Hyderabad has travelled to Mumbai and Delhi on short notice for events leading up the Olympics. First there was the meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the nation’s capital, followed by the event organised by the Badminton Authority of India prior to the shuttlers’ departure to Rio de Janeiro.
