“Kadhai”: A Tale Spun in Two Cities

HOUSTON: Produced by Vijaya Rajan under the banner of Akash and Akshai Raj Cine International , multiple sequences of “ Kadhai”, the story was shot in Houston recently.
One of the locations of the shooting was restaurent co-owner and businessman Rajan Radhakrishnan’s Madras Pavillion in Sugarland.
Rajan Radhakrishnanan has been a former tamil hero and a singer and is coordinating the shooting with his knowledge and expertise in the film industry. A song for the film was shot admist lively and lavishly decorated Madras Pavillion that saw the presence of prominent Houstonians, interested in cinema, especially tamil movies.
Starring newcomers Shawn and Niveditha in leading roles, the romantic musical thriller revolves around the husband, an award winning writer and his violinist wife and Abhinay, another young actor.
“Kadhai has a strong storyline and is very different from the regular tamil movies,” informs Rajan Radhakrishnan. He adds, in addition, the movie will showcase a vareity music composed by veterans as well as newcomers. “For the first time in Indian films, a particular song in Kadhai will feature newcomer Paul J.’s music bringing together about sixty musicians eminent in different genres of rendition and famous at national and international levels” he says.
The movie marks composer Paul J’s foray into Tamil films. The film will also have veteran composer and South Indian Classical vocalist M.Balamuralikrishna appera on the tamil screen after a 20-year hiatus. “It is the first time in 42 years that Balamuralikrishna will be appearing in a film. He features in a concert in the film which is expected to be the highlight. The film will also showcase the talents of singers Malgudi Subha, Mukhtiyar Ali among others. The movie is being directed by Abhishek and the cinematography is by Abhusha.
About 75 percent of the movie has already been shot in India, specifically, in Chennai and the remaining is being completed in the United States. Deepa Ramanujan is the production coordinatior for the shooting in United States. The movie is scheduled for a June 2009 release.
The mahurat shot was filmed at the ClearLake home of Gopal Savjani, a prominent businessman and philanthropist. Traditional lamp lighting was done by Vijaya Rajan, Alpa Shah and Urvashi Savjani, while the puja was performed by Mahesh Shah, co-owner, Madras Pavillion and Rajan Radhakrishnan.
