Barsana Dham’s 2008 Mela to Offer New ‘Authentic Hindu Experience This Year

AUSTIN - This year’s Mela at Barsana Dham offers more to experience than previous years. The annual fun-filled, half-day event has expanded to include an all-new evening program, called the “Authentic Hindu Experience.” The new Mela schedule will include a wide variety of activities from 12:00 noon until 9:00 p.m. on April 26.

The day-long event includes the traditional Authentic Indian Fair from noon until 6 p.m., which features all of the many lively and entertaining experiences regular attendees have come to know and love, including an open-air bazaar, Indian food and sweet booths, games and prizes, mehndi hand painting, animal shows, and dance performances. New to the Fair this year are several attractions, including a petting zoo, carriage rides past the wildflower fields and train rides.
The newest feature of this year’s Mela is the evening program that will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. This first-ever devotional program includes these activities:

* 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. - Classical Sarod and Tabla Concert, featuring Shankar P. Bhattacharyya and Gourisankar Karmakar.
* 7:00 - 7:10 p.m. - Radha Krishn devotional dance performance.

* 7:10 - 8:00 p.m. - Chanting Meditation

* 8:00 - 9:00 p.m. - “The Search for Happiness: The Call of the Soul,”

Spiritual discourse by H.D. Swami Prakashanand Saraswati, founder of Barsana Dham, and arti.

* 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. - Concurrent youth program will feature Mr. Puppet of Austin presenting a puppet show. There will also be a movie showing of religious stories based on the Hindu scriptures.

Food booths will be offering delicious vegetarian Indian food and snacks behind the Radha Rani Temple from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
