Osmania University Alumni Honor their Own Star Osmanians

The Osmania Universty Alumni of North America (OUAA) organized a reunion on July 5,2008 in Newark during the ATA convention. Osmanians from various cities in the USA attended the event. The Vice Chancellor of Osmania Prof. Tirupati Rao and the Public relations officer, Prof. Srinivas Rao, gracedthe occassion. The VC also visited Chicago, Boston, Houston and the west coast to attend the local alumni gatherings. The purpose of his visit was to interact with the alumni, to improve the bond between the alumni and their alma-mater and to encourage the alumni to take up some projects and programs in Osmania. He was overwelmed by the enthusiasm, love and loyalty demonstated by the alumni for their alma-mater.

A fundraising mission was started about a year ago and the response was simply “heartwarming and remarkable” says, the president of OUAA, Mr. Harinath Medi of Houston.

During their celebration on July 5,2008 in Newark, they honoured some star Osmanians with citations. The honourees are; Mr. Krishna Kurapati, for excellency in entreprenurship,Dr Ramana Reddy for excellency in academic and education, Mr. Shantanu Narayen, for excellency in technology, Mr. Ramchandra Reddy Nomula, for excellency in NRI Entreprenurship, Mr. T. Ramchandra Reddy, for philonthropy, amd Mr. Hanmanth Reddy, for community leadership. All the honouries are extremely successful and excelled in their chosen fields.

The Houston chapter of OU Alumni also had a gathering during the VC’s visit to Houston and successfully held a fundraiser with over $20k in pledges in addition to the $50k from DR. Aziz Jamaluddin. The local Houston chapter also honoured the local stars Mr. Sanjay Reddy as young entrepreneur, Mr. Balaji Singh for business success and Mr. M Jithendr Reddy, the ATA president elect, for leadership.

The Alumni started a mission with a slogan “Million Dollar March” and have reached halfway in their goal in a very short time.

The big donors are Mr. Paila Malla Reddy with $125k, Mr. N Damodar Reddy with over $100k for an endowed chair, Mr. Sena Reddy with over $100k for special projects,Mr Krishna Kurapati $100k, and our own Houstonian Mr. Aziz Jamaluddin with $50k. Many other alumni pledged a total of over $60k. The alumni soon wants to upgrade their mission to “Multimillion Dollar March”. Osmania is located in Hyderabad, one of the fastest growing cities in India. The immense software boom in Hyderabad made it known as Cyberabad!

Osmania Universty is the crown jewel of Hyderabad. Established in 1918 by 7th Nizam of Hyderabad, Osmania is one of the oldest and largest Universities in India. Osmania emerged as a premier institution crossing several milestones in pusuit of academic excellence. Today it is a multi-faculty,multi-campus semi-residential and affiliating University with the main campus spread over 1300 acres. 11 faculties, 52 departments, over 1000 affiliated colleges, and a total of 300,000 students including 1200 foreign students . Osmania is spread over 9 districts of the Telangana area of Andhra Pradesh.
