SUGAR LAND: It is gratifying to see the growth of professional firms in our South Asian community. From a one-man office, Attorney George Willy, a native of Sri Lanka, has built up the firm from the exclusive immigration law practice 25 years ago to a large firm with three additional partners to expand the practice to include family law, employment and select criminal matters.

Before explaining the expansion of  the firm, Willy thanked his wife, “I would like to acknowledge the hard work Shanti put into this, first when I was going to school as a penniless foreign student and then a penniless law student and then a penniless lawyer for some time. Many here, who have walked the path of an immigrant, understand the sacrifice spouses make. Shanti was a rock.”

An audience composed of special guests, media and law firm staff cheer the expansion of the firm.

“The firm will now be known as Willy, Nanayakkara, Rivera and Goins,” Willy explained. “Those are last names of Chiro, Javier and Randy. Chiro graduated from law school in Sri-Lanka in 1993, obtained an LLM from University of Houston and is licensed in the State of Alabama. He worked for me back in the late nineties and early 2000 then went onto work in the wireless phone industry, returned to law and worked at a well known immigration law firm in Houston for about 10 years and returned home to us. He is a charismatic, hard working lawyer who can be relied on to get things done even in the most difficult circumstances. He is currently in Sri-Lanka and works remotely and will be returning in June. Javier is the silent type. Bright, conscientious and focused. He graduated from Florida Coastal School of Law and received his LLM from the University of Houston. He heads our litigation section. Randy, the baby of the team, is the writer, the resident scholar and researcher. He comes from a journalist background, which means nothing misses his eye. He graduated from South Texas College of Law.”

“As you know for a very long time we have focused on immigration and immigration alone,” Willy elaborated. “We will continue to remain largely an immigration firm. However, given the experience and talent in our team we are going to venture out into commercial law, family law, labor law and selected criminal cases. We recently opened an office in Ahmedabad India and continue to run our Atlanta office run by my daughter Shivanti, maintain our affiliations with law firms in Canada and Pakistan. Rajneesh Chaudhary who was a high ranking civil servant in India and an LLM from U of H will be assisting those who need to deal with complex legal issues in India. He has come on as Of Counsel to the firm.”

Willy also thanked the other lawyers and staff at the firm: “Zaheer Zaidi will continue to handle family and employment related cases in the firm. Pauline Appelbaum, who retired from US Citizenship and Immigration Service as their top regional counsel, offers her long years of experience as Of Counsel. Roger Piper serves as a special adviser after 30 years of executive experience with the Immigration service. Tom Fischer is also a special adviser and he also comes to us with 30 years of executive experience. Tom Hutson a former Consul General with 40 years of experience with the State Department also serves as a special adviser. Last not the least is a lawyer called Shangrila Willy. She helps her dad when dad needs a sharp pen and some serious thinking.”

The WNRG firm will continue to hold free 30-min. consultations every Thursday. For additional information, visit www.grwpc.com.

When I initially commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added
I get three e-mails with the same comment.
Is there any way you can remove people from that service?
    Appreciate it!
