C@deFest 2.1

IITAGH-In-1

HOUSTON: High School Students.  Houston Community College Students.  Small Business Owners. They all came to the /C@deFest// 2.1 event hosted jointly by IIT Alumni of Greater Houston (IITAGH) and the Houston Community College (HCC) at the HCC Missouri City Campus on Feb. 27, from 9:30am to 3:30pm. Anand Chauhan, an IIT Madras graduate who taught the workshop, started with a brief introduction about computer science and talked about how programs have been affecting directly every endeavor that humans have accomplished. He then went straight to explaining how the html protocol work. Anand guided the participants to build their first simple website, which they then proceeded to connect to a server to experience their website up and running! “All of this was accomplished within a few hours which I think it’s pretty awesome! Thanks Professor Anand for helping people accomplish their goals!”, said Carrie Dumit, Senior Majoring in Computer Science at University of Houston Downtown Campus.

Bobbie Porter, who holds a Master’s in Social Work, and is self-employed attended the event with the purpose of updating his company’s website. “The class was very productive and rewarding!  “As a person with no skill-set for website language, the presenter made it as easy as coloring inside the lines.  I look forward to other curriculum offering where he is presenting!”, said Bobbie.

“IITAGH is very proud to be associated with the /C@deFest// which Anand and Ravi have been hosting successfully over the last few months,” said Shamanth Shankar, President of the IIT Alumni of Greater Houston.

The next /C@deFest// event will be held at the HCC Alief – Hayes Campus on Saturday April 2, 2016.  Anyone interested in attending can contact ravi.brahmbhatt@hccs.edu (Ravi Brahmbhatt, Director of Student Innovation & Entrepreneurship at the HCC).  We will be working with HCC Trustee Neeta Sane to host this event.
