Houston Science Group Honors Consul General Harish

HOUSTON: Consul General Harish Parvathaneni was honored by the Houston Science Group, hosted by Dr. Krishna Dronamraju, at the Narin’s Bombay Brasserie Restaurant. Both Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and Houston Mayor Anise Parker were represented at the meeting and messages were read honoring the Consul General by the U.S. Congress and the City of Houston.
Among those gathered for the occasion were Nobel laureate from Rice University Robert Curl, Kapil Mehta, Durga Agarwal, Jagat Kamdar, Koshy And Moni Thomas, Krishna and Michele Dronamraju, Manik Talwani, and Raj Chhikara. Also present were Nike Luqman the Senior Protocol Manager for Houston who represented Mayor Anise Parker and Deirdre from the office of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.
Indian Consul General in Houston Harish Parvathaneni is a distinguished member of the Indian Foreign Service and an experienced diplomat. Since joining the India Foreign Service in 1990, he has learnt Arabic at the American University of Cairo and passed the examination with distinction.
He has served in India Mission in Cairo and Riyadh and headed the Post as India Representative to the Palestinian Authority stationed in Gaza city. He was on Secondment to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) as the Chief of the Policy Analysis Unit at UNRWA Headquarters in Gaza.
He thereafter worked in the East Asia and External Publicity Divisions in the Ministry of External Affairs. For a period of five years since 2007, Consul General Harish was the Joint Secretary and Officer on Special Duty to the Vice President of India and Chairman of the council of States of the Indian Parliament, M. Hamid Ansari.
Consul General Harish is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from Osmania University College of Engineering, Hyderabad. He is married to Nandita Parvathaneni and has two daughters, Ayushi and Amani. He assumed charge as the Consul General of India, Houston on 30 July 2012.
