Smriti Zubin Irani who had given her acting career a rest is all geared up for her big screen debut. She will soon be seen in director Umesh Shukla’s Mere Apne opposite veteran actor Rishi Kapoor. The film which has already started its shoot is being produced byBhushan Kumar.

Confirming her presence in the film, Smriti says, “Yes, I am a part of Mere Apne where I play Abhishek Bachchan’s mother and wife to Rishi Kapoor. The film also stars Asin Thottumkal and is directed by Umesh Shukla.” Interestingly, Smriti has earlier worked in a TV serial titled Mere Apne with yet another legendary actor, Vinod Khanna. While in the TV series Smriti had the typical heavy saree-sindoo look, for the film she is seen dressed in casual salwar kameez with white hair to complement the role. She also seems to have knocked off some weight.

The actor who also has a full-fledged career in politics is these days having a packed schedule and is managing time for all her commitments, “I have already shot the first schedule and looking forward to the next shoot.”

Smriti preferred politics over acting and after her long running role as Tulsi in Kyunki Saas bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi came to an end in 2008 she went on to do other roles and even tried her hand at producing serials till she became an MP in 2011. Her last outing was the episodic stint forEkta Kapoor’s Ek Thi Naayka in 2012. So what made her take up this offer? “I was quiet happy with the entire story of the film. Also looking at Umesh’s emotional connect with the story and the film I made my decision. It is also a great opportunity for me to work with a legend like Rishiji,” says Smriti about the director Umesh Shukla who has the successful film Oh My God to his credit….
