India House Hosts Yoga Lecture by Dr. H.R. Nagendra, A World Renowned Yoga Authority

HOUSTON: Keeping with the tradition of bringing internationally well-known figures to Houston, India House Houston was proud to host a free yoga and jyotish lecture titled “Yoga for Positive Mind & Body” given by Dr. H.R. Nagendra on June 6, at their O.P. Jindal Center, located at 8888 West Bellfort, Houston, TX 77031. The lecture was presented in collaboration with the Museum of fine Arts, Houston and Asia Society Texas Center.

The event was open to the public and attracted a packed house of over 200 people in attendance who listened to the Guru Ji, as he is popularly known with apt attention. The goal of this event was to educate people to live healthy, happy and peaceful life by integrating elements of Yoga in their daily life.

After welcoming note by Jugal Malani, President India House and introducing the guest, Dr. H.R Nagendra proceeded with the lecture explaining every aspect of his lecture ably supported by a power point projection. Dr. H.R. Nagendra, a former space scientist of NASA, is the vice Chancellor of Swami Vivekananda Yoga Research foundation (SVYASA) University, Bengaluru, India. He is also on the Board of Advisors of Yoga Bharti. Dr. Nagendra has published many research papers on Yoga and its applications. He is a well-known yoga researcher, practitioner and philosopher.

During his lecture he defined yoga is not just physical postures but is mastery over the mind andbody which can lead to optimal health of people. He explained the physiology of stress which is the sympathetic activation at body level and the contribution of stress filled life style towards it. He suggests the practice called cyclic meditation based on the concepts from the yogic scriptures which provides deep rest to the human system developed by SVYASA. Further he presented 30 years of SVYASA scientific research in the field of yoga on different aliments. SVYASA has yoga research collaboration with MD Anderson on yoga cancer. At the end of the lecture Dr. Krishna Madappa, President and founder of Institute for science and spirituality from New Mexico, presented on GDV (Gas Discharge Visualization) Bio- well machine which tracks our Prana (Energy) in our body. The lecture was concluded with a never ending session of Q & A which had to be interrupted as it was past the dinner time. All attendees were informed that free Yoga classes are run at India House by local Director of Houston VYASA’s Vishwarupa on Tue and Thu from 11 am to 12 pm and on Saturdays from 10 to 11 am. Word of thanks was given by Dr. Durga Agrawal, one of the Trustees of India House.

India house was also home to the workshop on Stress Management conducted by Guruji on the following day, Saturday June 7, from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm.
