NEW DELHI: Murali Vijay hit 150 and Ajinkya Rahane missed his century by just two runs as India were 462/6 in their first innings before the third day’s play was called off early due to rain in the one-off Test against Bangladesh at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah on Friday.

Ravichandran Ashwin (2) and Harbhajan Singh (7) were at the crease when rain stopped play again before early tea was taken and after waiting for an hour for the rain to relent, play was called off.

Vijay reached his 150 in the 4.1 overs bowled after an extended lunch break due to rain before play was stopped again. The short rain delay seems to have worked for Bangladesh as Shakib Al Hasan trapped Vijay plumb in front of the wicket in the first over when play resumed after a rain interruption.

Vijay went for the slog sweep, missed the delivery and was struck on the back pad and was unlucky as the impact was outside off and the ball was turning away as well but umpire Dharmasena lifted the dreaded finger. Vijay scored 150 runs off 272 deliveries with the help of a six and twelve fours.

Wriddhiman Saha (6) was then clean bowled by a wrong ‘un from Jubair Hossain through the gate.

Ajinkya Rahane missed his century by just two runs in quest of quick runs as he was clean bowled by Shakib Al Hasan by an arm-ball that went straight through after pitching, wasn’t the length to be pulled, Rahane went back and looked to pull over mid-wicket, the ball skidded through and hit the top of the middle stump. Rahane hit 14 fours in his 98-run knock that came off 103 balls.

Rahane brought up the Indian 400 on the second delivery of the first over in the second session of the day bowled by Shakib.

Vijay reached his third 150 off 271 balls with a flick off Hasan for a single and just after that it started raining forcing the players off the field.

Vijay and Rahane took the Indian first innings to 398/3 at lunch, steading the Indian first innings after the visitors lost three quick wickets. Vijay completed his sixth Test century soon after India resumed their first innings off 201 balls with a four to the third man fence off Taijul Islam.
