HOUSTON: “Ganapathi Bappa Moriya” was chanted by the Houston Indian Community on September 19. Yes, it was the 3rd Ganesh Mahotsav organized and celebrated by Telugu Radio Hungama at Shri Radha Krishna Temple.  The Hungama’s Ganesh Mahotsav was celebrated with great enthusiasm and participation. The preparations of this sacred festival began months in advance. The committee members and volunteers spent hundreds of hours in planning and implementing which led to a grand success.

The 6 feet Ganesha idol seen on the actual day of celebration was specially made and shipped from Hyderabad, India. The stage was decorated by Decor One which provided a beautiful backdrop for Lord Ganesha. Sridhar Dadi, on behalf of Radio Hungama team extends his heartfelt thanks to Ms. Nalini of Décor One.

Sridhar Dadi invited Indian community leaders, sponsors, Hungama Team and his family to light the lamp as a start of the occasion, followed by the elaborate execution of traditional rituals under the guidance of our Hindu priest Shri Hanuman Swamy of Sri Rama Jaya Niketan.  A very special thanks to Shriman Hanuman Swamy who performed the two Samuhika Poojas at 10:30 AM and 4:30 PM respectively. Free Ganesha idols and Pooja kits shipped from Hyderabad, India were provided to everyone participated in the Samuhika Pooja.

The Lunch Prasadam was provided to all the devotees which was sponsored by Annam Indian Cuisine, Mayuri India Restaurant, Vishala, Bawarchi Biryani Point and Biryani Pot. Sridhar Dadi would like to covey his sincere thanks to all the lunch sponsors. Snacks and fruit juices were sponsored by Mr. Umang Mehta of Deep Foods.

The cultural program was hosted by the Radio Hungama RJ’s Archana and Kiran. The performances included Indian classical dance by the dancers of the local dancing schools Anjali Center for Performing Arts & Laasika School of Dance and vocal singing by Swaramadhuri of Houston. The dance performances were amazing and each performance depicted the rich Indian culture.
