HOUSTON: They were sweethearts, since they met in Klein Forest High School in their sophomore year in 2000. Now, 14 years later, Rajib Bhattacharjee and Corinne Turmelle tied the knot, first in a Civil ceremony on August 14 in Richardson, Texas, where they both live and then, last weekend again, on October 4, in a Hindu ceremony conducted by Pandit Rajinder Sharma at Las Villas, a wedding and banquet place in Southwest Houston.

The bride and groom were feted in a reception held the next day, October 5 at India House by the groom’s father Swapan Bhattacharjee in a function called Bou Bhat in their native Bengali. Among the invited guests was former Houston Mayor Bill White.

Rajib, 30 and only two weeks older than his bride, is a Deputy in the Williamson County Sherrif’s office, a post which he has just joined a week ago. Prior to that, he was a police officer in the City of Richardson for the past 8 years. He graduated from DePaul University in Green Castle, Indiana with a degree in Political Science and International Studies.  His father Swapan is an Oil and Gas Explorationist, a Geologist and Geophysicist in private practice.

Corinne works in Healthcare and Human Resource for Cigna Insurance and received her degree in International Studies from the University of Oklahoma. Her mom is a teacher in the Dallas ISD and her dad is a geologist at Apache Oil. The couple intends to pursue their MBA online from the University of Texas, Tyler.

The newlyweds will go on their honeymoon next summer with a cruise to the Caribbean. After Corinne moves, they will make their home in Round Rock, Texas, outside of Austin.
