World Refugee Day in Houston

HOUSTON: On June 21, World Refugee Day, was celebrated in Houston at Raindrop Turkish House with more than 2500 people. Houston is home to over 70,000 refugees from nearly 80 different countries. It was attended by Congresswomen Sheila Jackson Lee, Gene Wu (State Representative), Mike Laster (City Council), Richard Nguyen (City Council), Afzaal Mahmood (Consul General of Pakistan), Rahman Moton (President MACC) and organizers from The Alliance, Catholic Charity, HCC, Interfaith and YMCA.

In the event Congresswoman, State Representative and council members gave their valuable message and presented awards to the organizers and the refugees.  Rahman Moton along with his speech was honored to lead raffle drawings for refugee families. Many priceless gifts in raffles were distributed to the refugee children .

As Houston being number one destination for the refugee resettlement, the day filled with cultural entertainment, cultural food, children activities and education exhibits.
