Indians to Celebrate 8th Hamara Desi Christmas
HOUSTON: The Houston Indian Fellowship (HIF), a group of Indians from across the metropolitan Houston area, annually conducts a program called Hamara Desi Christmas. This voluntary organization in addition to conducting this event also conducts a winter cricket championships and painting competition for children to bring the community together for a time of fun and provides free health care to the needy through Red Oaks Hospital.
Hamara Desi Christmas is the only Desi Christmas celebration in the Houston area. The celebration includes traditional and non-traditional programs ranging from skits, dances and songs. Hamara Desi Christmas Celebration is intended to celebrate Christmas with people of different religions, faiths and beliefs. The celebration is non-denominational and usually the audience members are a varied group of families with origins from various continents around the world from Asia to South America. The admission for the event is free followed by free dinner catered by the acclaimed Annam Indian Cuisine.
HIF by hosting this event and providing free health care to the needy strives to bring Christmas cheer to people from different faiths and regions of India.
Boisterous MCs have planned to make this event an entertaining one. Santa Claus is determined to bring cheer to the Children. US Congressman Steve Stockman, will be the chief guest of the event.
Deepak Israel member of HIF proudly stated, “This event is growing ecstatically every year bringing the community together in celebrating a fun filled Christmas!”.
“We are going to fill the Old Stafford Civic Center to maximum occupancy this year!” said Reuben Joseph the lead coordinator of HIF.
Dr. Robello Samuel, integral member of HIF, said “Seeing the joy of Christmas on the faces of the audience gives me great satisfaction as that is what the whole idea behind the celebration is!”
The event is sponsored by Red Oaks Hospital, Annam Indian Cuisine, Confidant Realty Advisors and other individuals. University of Houston students along with other families and friends are helping behind the scenes.
