Tri-series in West Indies: India opt to bowl against Sri Lanka
Virat Kohli, the stand-in India captain, won the toss and chose to field against Sri Lanka in a crucial Celkon Mobile Cup clash at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica on Tuesday (July 2).
Kohli named two changes to the side. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the regular captain, was ruled out for the rest of the tournament with a hamstring injury and was replaced in the playing XI by Murali Vijay. Mohammad Shami also got a look in, replacing Bhuvneshwar Kumar. (Updates: Scorecard)
Angelo Mathews, the Sri Lanka captain, named two changes as well, replacing Ajantha and Jeevan Mendis with Kusal Perera and Sachithra Senanayake.
Kohli said India, going into the match on the back of a narrow one-wicket loss to West Indies on Sunday, would look to exploit a damp pitch. “There is some moisture in the track,” he said. “The wicket behaved differently in the second half of the last game. There is a bit of dampness and turn for spinners, so we’ll try and extract it.”
Mathews admitted it was a crucial game for Sri Lanka, who lost their match against West Indies by six wickets. “It’s not going to be easy,” he said. “We have to fight it out. They won the toss and our batters have a challenge.”…
