HOUSTON: Bollywood playback singer Arijit Singh, known for spreading waves of melodious music and rhythms, enchanted his fans, at the NRG Arena on Saturday, October 3.
The show was organized by Rehan Siddiqi, of ‘Hum Tum Shows’, who in the past has organized several successful events in Houston, by bringing in popular artists like Adnan Sami, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Ghulam Ali and Mika Singh. From the several successful events, his recent one was the ‘Fusion 2015’ concert, which was a huge success.
Arijit Singh, who has spread love and ignited romance with his music through songs like ‘Tum hi ho’, ‘Muskurane ki wajah’ and ‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’, was thrilled to be a part of his first live concert in Houston. All the hype and excitement before the show was well justified with the brilliant musical extravaganza of this outstanding singer. He performed with a with a 72-member grand symphony orchestra, something that has never been experienced before in a South-Asian concert.
Arijit rocked the stage with his voice and performance to his tracks like the romantic hits ‘Suno na sange marmar’, ‘Kabira’, ‘Khamoshiyan’ and ‘Tose Naina’ to the ever-green ‘Dilliwali Girlfriend’ and ‘Mast Magan’. He literally set the stage on fire with his enchanting voice. Arijit then moved swiftly on to the second half of the concert, playing his piano and guitar, and singing some iconic songs from the 60’s to 90’s, like Amitabh’s hit, ‘Chukar mere man ko’ and Kailash Kher’s ‘Teri deewani’, to which the audience waved their smartphone flashlights, creating a stunning appearance of a sea of lights. This act truly enhanced the tempo in the huge theatre, which was already planned and set with a great coordination of light, sound and LED.
The mix of contemporary and classical music was such a treat to the eyes and the ears. It was simply stunning to see the stage full of talented musicians along with their backgroup singers, who ensured, as a single team, moments of fresh music coupled with endless heapings of entertainment. The pounding of the drum and intense acoustics, mixed with the simultaneous dancing of thousands of people, literally shook up the floor. In a short span, Arijit, who’s inexhaustible stamina is commendable, wooed the audience with a couple of lines each, of several of his popular numbers, simply to ensure the audiences do not miss out on any of their favorite tracks. A sweet surprise in this concert was the presence of Arijit’s sister, who along with him sang a couple of melodious tracks, including, ‘Lambi Judaai’. Arijit definitely added a lot of memories to the night by ensuring there was no single dull-moment. His voice was superb throughout the show and he demonstrated a range of vocal notes that got the audiences excited. And what better song to bid adieu to the concert, than by singing the most awaited megahit, ‘Tum Hi Ho,’ from Aashiqui 2, amidst the audience’s roaring response in form of screams and chants.
Rehan Siddiqi, who by himself has a fan following by now, came on stage during the break to bring up the other organizers, thank and acknowledge all the sponsors and media partners. Rehan, who has been thankful to the Houston audience for their continued support, has successfully organised a record number sold-out concerts this year. He has plans to woo Houston once again at the Arena theatre, on October 30, by presenting legendry singer Alka Yagnik, and Atif Aslam on November 13. So stay tuned and don’t give that a miss!
