Infused Creates Movie on Stage

STAFFORD: Infused Performing Arts Bollywood Dance School and Dance company presented their fourth annual in-house production “Infusion 2014” – The Making of a Bollywood movie at the Stafford Center for Performing Arts on Saturday, October 4 at 7 pm. Stafford Center was packed for this entertaining and yet a free event.
Founded by husband and wife duo Tina Bose-Kumar and Kiron Kumar in 2009, the company was born out of their love and dedication to the arts and promoting the rich Indian culture to students and audiences around USA. Currently, they have three locations in Houston and three in Dallas area. They have been featured on ABC 13, Fox 26 and CW39 news. Their shows have a unique trademark of combining magic and dance on stage.

The show started by Tina and Kiron thanking the sponsors, followed by the first magic trick of the evening – Kiron’s costume change in 10 seconds in a magic cloth cylinder. As the title suggests, the show is a journey from start to finish of the production of a Bollywood movie. The show opens with the scriptwriter and his assistant entering the stage discussing the movie they plan on making. Their discussion turns to key players involved in making of a movie like the Hero, the director, the producer, music director and many others. The songs start unfolding beginning with a Kathak dance on “Mein radha tu shyaam” and “Unnai Kaanadhu” choreographed by Shalu Purohit-Bajaj. Peppy numbers followed including “Tattad Tattad” and “Ram Chahe” from Ram Leela. Every song that followed had a different element about it along with participants of various age groups (from 4 years old to 30+ adults). Songs were well choreographed with excellent use of props like umbrellas for “Zoobi Doobi” and the popular angel-wings.
The show was conceived, directed and choreographed by Tina Bose and husband-and-magician Kiron Kumar. Through out the show as the songs rolled by there were magic tricks lined up to liven up the proceedings. A noteworthy illusion was the one in which Kiron impaled Akhila Kumar with a sword and apparently nothing happened to her. Besides magic, Infused 2014 also had a heady mix of comedy, romance, fight sequences and sudden appearance of zombies from the front row of the audience. Special shout out to the actors including Karthik Chander (who also co-scripted the show with Kiron), Arun Kumar Siva Juturi, Vanshika Vipin, Baby and Nishanth Raj. A group of 25 dancers from the Infused Professional Dance company carried the show with different dance forms such as Kathak, Bollywood, hip hop, contemporary and zombie dance bringing together a true infusion of dances. The show lighting was well managed by Balu Madhu, Kiran Asokan and Suman Mangu. That’s as far as 2014 is concerned, next stop for Infused is Half time show at Rockets vs New Orleans on April 12, 2015… their third such successful venture at Toyota Centre.
