Republic Day Flag Hoisting at the Residence of Consul General of India

HOUSTON: India’s 65th Republic day was celebrated on Sunday, 26 January, at Consul General’s Residence at 5634 Briar Drive, Houston TX, with immense enthusiasm and joy.

Around 250 people were gathered including Indian nationals, members of the community and friends of India. This year, large numbers of children and students from University of Houston and Rice University also attended the celebrations.

At 10 am the Consul General hoisted the Indian Flag and all those assembled sang the Indian National Anthem.

At 10.10 am, addressing those present, the Consul General of India, and his wife Nandita Parvathaneni, extended a warm welcome to all to celebrate India’s 65th Republic Day.

At 10.15 am Consul General read out the President of India’s Address to the Nation on the eve of the Republic Day.

At 10.25 am the Students of Swaralayam Arts Forum performed.

By 10.35 am the students of Anjali Center for Performing Arts portrayed a Kuchipudi dance based on the song “Vinayaka Kavuthvam” composed by Dr. M. Balamurali Krishna and Choreographed by Dr. Rathna Kumar’s Guru, Dr.Vempati Chinna Satyam.

At 10 .50 am Consul General Harish presented the gifts to the performers as a token of appreciation.

At 10.55 am Guru’s Dr. Rathna Kumar and Vidushi Rajarajeswary Bhat were felicitated.

At 11 am Consul General Harish thanked all the participants and the attendees.
