Asha Bhosle’s Iconic Performance Leaves Houston Spellbound

HOUSTON: On September 5, Arena Theatre was buzzing and the buzz permeated the air as the legendary singer Asha Bhosle and ghazal maestro Talat Aziz performed in an enchanting concert, billed as “The Iconic Tour: A Tribute to Bollywood”.

The show was organized by Rehan Siddiqi, in association with Shaks Entertainment and SK Entertainment. Rehan Siddiqi of ‘Hum Tum Shows’, has in the past, organized several successful events, by bringing in popular artists like Adnan Sami, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Ghulam Ali, Atif Aslam and Mika Singh. One of his recently successful event was the ‘Fusion 2015’ concert.

Asha Bhosle, live in concert is always a transcendental experience. Ashaji, as she is fondly called, captured not just the sound of Bollywood but also its very soul. Her youthful and electrifying performance was a pleasant surprise for the audience. She fire cracked with her famous Jhumka gira re and Piya tu ab to aaja, and the sultry chura liya hai tumne jo dil ko from ‘Yaadon ki Baarat’.

The Ghazal maestro, Talat Aziz, rendered some popular songs like Zingadi jab bhi and Khoya khoya chand, taking the audience down memory lane and making them nostalgic. Ashaji and Talat Aziz thrilled the audience with some duet performances as well, and as always Ashaji whose musical prowess has been proven, brought in freshness to all melodies.

The Padma Vibhushan awardee, who turned 82 this year, announced that this was her last tour. Ashaji, for the first time ever celebrated her 82nd birthday on stage, by cutting a cake. The event concluded with a standing ovation by the audience for Ashaji and Talat Aziz.
