HOUSTON: Diverse group of community leaders met with District 22 Congress Member Pete Olson at his Sugar Land office to discuss fixing our broken immigration system. Carlos Duarte, State Director of Mi Familia Vota. Mustafaa Carrol, Executive Director Council on American Islamic Relations. Deborah Chen, Board Member of OCA- Greater Houston, Rahman Moton, President Myanmar American Chamber of Commerce, CEO Radio Houston and Carlos Ramirez, General Manager of a Local Company from the oil and gas industry.

The group called on Congressman Olson to lead the Texas way, by being pragmatic and addressing the need for smart, effective and accountable border enforcement but also giving a big boost to the economy by supporting a path to eventual citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants that are an integral part of our communities. The group acknowledged the need for the undocumented to get to the back of the line, to pay fines and back taxes, learn English and civics and submit to background checks. The group also emphasized the need to keep the principle of family reunification in any immigration reform.

Congressman Olson was appreciative of the visit and invited the group to continue engaging in conversation.
