Convention of Aligarh Muslim University Alumni in Houston
HOUSTON: The XIIth annual convention of The Federation of Aligarh Alumni Associations will be held in Houston from June 28 June 30 at Crowne Plaza Houston River Oaks Hotel. The event will be organized by Texas chapter of the federation, Aligarh Alumni Association of Texas.
At the convention, representatives of various AMUAAs, researchers, business executives and academic experts will analyze and offer solutions to challenges faced by AMU, its student body and alumni.
At every annual convention, a large number of Alumni, of all affiliations and professional backgrounds, from across North America gather. Representatives of each association make presentation on their activities of the past year; discuss plan for the upcoming year, and more importantly create consensus to align their goals to better serve the community they represent, and their Alma Mater.
The three day event includes meetings, presentations, and thoughtful discussions. It culminates with a Gala Dinner on Saturday, June 29. The Gala Dinner is open to all and local community members are encouraged to attend the dinner and meet the distinguished guest. Famous Ghazal singer, Udayan Parikh is the featured entertainment.
The Chief Guest of the event is the current Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah. He is flying in from India to meet the Alumni and apprise them of his vision for AMU. He also wants to channel the expertise and resources of the Alumni settled in USA and Canada, for the development of the University. Among the many projects he has initiated since taking over the helm at Aligarh is to develop a strong Alumni liaison group, and to use the success of its alumni for both networking and improvement of infrastructure.
Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, is an alumnus of St. Joseph’s College, Nainital, National Defense Academy, Khadakvasla, Defense Services Staff College, Wellington, Army War College, Mhow and National Defense College, New Delhi.
He has held prestigious command, staff and instructional appointments in his unblemished career of 40 years in the Army. He was appointed Deputy Chief of Army Staff on Oct 06, 2006, He became the Vice Chancellor of AMU on May 17, 2012.
