Healthy recipe: Quick green smoothie


A smoothie is a quick way of getting multiple essential nutrients at one go. It can be called a power drink which not only give your body the energy to keep going, it also is easy to make and does not require any cooking skills. If you are watching your weight, do not know how to cook but still want to eat healthy, or are simply health-conscious, you can fulfil all these requirements by making a glass of smoothie. Opt for fresh ingredients to make it as healthy as possible and avoid adding sugar or artificial sweeteners. The more natural ingredients you use, the better it is for your system. All you need is a blender and you are good to go! Dr Nandita Shah who runs SHARAN, shares a green smoothie recipe which is vegan and can be made in a matter of minutes. Here’s what you’ll need.

1/3 cup mint leaves
Juice of 1/2 lime
2-3 large frozen bananas, slightly defrosted
1 tsp orange zest
1/2 tsp grated ginger
1 tbsp soaked raisins

Place the mint leaves and lime juice in the blender. Add some of the bananas and blend to crush the mint leaves well. Add the rest of the ingredients and blend well. Add water as needed. Pour into glasses and serve immediately.


Different kinds of greens can be used like spinach, mint, coriander, celery greens, spring onion greens, beetroot greens, etc. Bananas, and other pulpy fruits make good smoothies but watery fruits like watermelon and oranges can also be used. Mix about 1/3 or less of greens with 2/3 fruit and some water to make a great smoothie. Flavouring can be added as needed. Nut milks or coconut milk can also be used. Smoothies should not be strained….
