High School Students Win 1st Place at Science and Engineering Fair of Houston

HOUSTON: Andrea Francis is a sophomore at DeBakey High School, who won the 1st place in the life science division with her partner Shangyi Fu in the Science and Engineering Fair of Houston 2014 (SEFH). Andrea Francis parents are Suresh and Sreeja Francis who are from Kochi, Kerala, India.
In their project, They found an alternative fertilizer that would be environmentally and economically beneficial. By looking into different fertilizers, they were able to find an organic fertilizer, Vitamin C, which could potentially solve run-off problems.
Since they are first place winners, Andrea and Shangyi shall be competing for 2014 ExxonMobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair, March 20-23, in San Antonio, Texas.
By competing in the state competition in San Antonio, they will be able to gain new experiences and interact with new people in order to gain more knowledge about the areas of science.
By looking into environmental problems, they are able to solve not only for the benefit of aquatic ecosystems, but potentially for the agricultural industry as well. They wish to research more into the benefits of their project in order to yield the best results in the real world.
