PEARLAND: MTS (Meenakshi Temple Society) held a founders formal on December 19, in order to thank and honor the founders. This event has been a tradition at MTS for over 4 years to honor all those who have served the Board. What started as a small establishment in 1977 grew into a large religious organization that serves over 15,000 registered devotees in the Greater Houston Area. Many younger generation kids kicked off the night with a speech about how the temple had impacted their life.
They felt that the temple was their second home and emphasized the services that it had provided for the Indian community, specifically to children. It was also highlighted that the temple has not only affected them religiously, but it has also provided a platform to display their cultural talents. An hour of delightful performances, organized by Mala Gopal and Srikanth Venugopalan, kept the audience engaged. Chairman P. Vaduganathan expressed his gratitude by stating, “Twenty kids came one by one on to the stage and asserted that they are proud to be part of MTS and is their second home.” He went on to thank all the volunteers who helped assemble the mega-event that was the Kumbabishekam by hosting an appreciation dinner. To end the night, MTS and its devotees contributed to the Chennai Flood Relief by donating $10,000. The check was presented to the Tamil Nadu Foundation Houston Chapter President Dr. Ram Sivaraman by Padma Golla.
