NEW DELHI:Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said he never had a reason to be disappointed or lose his cool while dealing with the bureaucracy.

“After my long experience in government, I can say with confidence that I have never scolded a civil servant or felt the need to raise my voice at them … this, despite me coming to the ruling dispensation (in Gujarat) with zero experience,” Modi, perceived by many as a tough task-master and disciplinarian, said in his address to bureaucrats at a 10th Civil Services Day function.

“This is because I believe the supreme being has given the greatest strength to all individual to rise above the ordinary and change for the better. Our job (as the government) is to bring out their inherent goodness,” Modi said in his pep-talk to bureaucrats who turned up in good numbers for the event.

“There is unlimited talent in government departments and this gives me confidence that national welfare cannot be stopped. My strong team gives me no reason to be pessimistic,” he said.
