Priyanka Chopra bid her father a tearful farewell

Priyanka Chopra’s father, Dr Ashok Chopra, lost a prolonged battle with cancer and breathed his last at a suburban hospital on Monday afternoon. Dr Chopra, 62, had retired from the Indian Army in 1997 as a lieutenant colonel and was ill for quite a long time.
Around 12.30 pm the hospital authorities announced the demise of Dr Chopra. His body was first taken to the Chopra residence at Yari Road and then to the Oshiwara Crematorium where the last rites were performed between 5.30 pm and 6.00pm by Priyanka’s brother Siddharth.
The actress was very close to her father and even has a tattoo ‘Daddy’s lil girl’ inked on her wrist. TOI had earlier reported how the actress had parked herself at the suburban hospital, where Dr Chopra was being treated, for the past six days.
In the morning the actress had posted a picture collage of her father on Twitter. Anurag Basu, the director who is a cancer survivor and a close friend of Priyanka, who was present at the crematorium, said, “Having gone through the same illness, I realise how draining cancer can be. More than the obvious physical complexities, it is mentally challenging. I was there last night by Mr. Chopra. He fought a tough battle. But since it was a relapse, it was increasingly tough to tackle. Priyanka has stood like a rock by her father. I’m not worried for her. She’s extremely strong as a person …my prayers are with the Chopra family.” …
