HOUSTON: Sachindra Sanamvenkata is a sophomore at DeBakey High School for Health Professions. Born in New Zealand to parents of Indian origin, he is a US resident and local Houstonian. He has had a strong goal since childhood to become an Oncologist and a cancer researcher. He finds cancer as one of the few diseases that have ravaged society for centuries. As a testament to his dedication, on February 22, his science fair project on breast cancer placed 1st place in Biochemistry/Microbiology at the Science and Engineering Fair of Houston (SEFH). He also won the Grand Award at SEFH. This qualified him for the prestigious Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Los Angeles, California on May 11-16. Participating at ISEF allows him to meet and greet with some of the world’s greatest thinkers. ISEF will place him and his project against some of the brightest, young minds on earth. However, he sees it as an opportunity to interact with likeminded peers, and he hopes to learn more about different advances in science and engineering while he is there. He envisions of one day bringing a breakthrough in cancer treatment and a remedy to millions of cancer patients worldwide.
