STAFFORD:“Passion, though a bad regulator, is a powerful spring” – Ralph Waldo Emerson.

This quote has been at the helm of successfully creating a tornado in the dance fraternity of Houston. Rhythm India, a creative melting pot for the multicultural dancers, found a new swanky address in Stafford on the joyous occasion of their 10th anniversary on Sunday, July 12. Founded by Arzan Gonda, an exemplary danseuse and a theatre personality par excellence, Rhythm India celebrated the grand opening of this magnificent 3000+ sq feet dance studio amidst pomp, fervour and Bollywood dance performances.

The grand opening was scheduled and spread across three slots to accommodate the well wishers, eminent guests and parents of the students who have been with Rhythm India over the past decade. Each slot started with a fifteen minute dance performance on either Bhangra, Folk dance or Bollywood tune by the students of the academy. It was followed by the demonstration of the Rhythm India’s trademark fitness routine called ‘JHOOM’ by the fitness instructor Namrata Sirur. The ideology behind the ‘Jhoom’ work outs is to ensure that basic fitness, a must for each and every individual, is possible with fun filled dance routine. This energetic workout was an instant ice breaker amongst the newbies and they felt at ease dancing to the beats. A guided tour of the newly furbished studio ended in the cake cutting ceremony for this festive occasion. The delicious refreshments were provided by the next door neighbour, Cillies Cakes and Bakery.

Rhythm India promotes the ideology that with the right guidance and positive attitude, anybody can Dance. Thus, the entire space is divided in three studios to accommodate different groups of dance aficionados. There are separate batches for kids (5- 8 yrs), juniors (9-12 yrs), Youth & Teens (12 + yrs) and adults. In fact Rhythm India received such an overwhelming feedback from the parents that they decided to start a ‘Parents Batch’ for the adults who accompanied their kids for dancing. ‘JHOOM’ Bollywood Fitness classes are for the adults who wish to tone themselves up with a clear goal in mind.

Sharing her dream with the guests, Arzan said, ‘It’s our 10th year anniversary this year & we wanted to do something special. We’ve always wanted to have our own space where creative people can push their boundaries, collaborate & express themselves freely to create artistic work that improves with each endeavour.’

She aims at formalizing the teaching of Bollywood dance, thus developing a structure to the entire dance sequences. To expose the students to the best choreographers in Bollywood, Rhythm India will be bringing Jack Samuel Gill, lead dancer in ABCD 2 & finalist on Dance India Dance along with Swarali Karulkar, famous from Dance India Dance & Jhalak Dikhlaja in the coming month. They will conduct two day workshop with the dancers at intermediate and advance levels and train them.

The creative interiors of the dance studio have been ideated and conceptualised by Arzan but executed by Jim DeVega. The studio had interesting facts in forms of posters across the lobbies with themes like ‘5 secrets of a super performer’ and so on. Spanning across 3000+ sq feet, this dance studio swears to take Stafford and the surrounding areas by their dancing shoes.

The studio is located at 867 Dulles Ave, Suite B, Stafford TX 77477 (Easy access to HWY 90 & 59, & close to Dulles High School & Swami Narayan Temple). Katy classes will continue on in Cinco Ranch & dance classes in Plano (Dallas Tx) will also continue at their current locations.
