Sabyasachi’s Couture Unveiled in Houston
SUGAR LAND: More than 120 Houstonians packed the Sabyasachi Couture trunk show on Saturday afternoon at the Sugar Land home of Asha Dhume, current vice president of Pratham Houston and immediate past president of Club 24 Plus. The private event, organized by Atlanta-based Bollywood Closet (the official U.S. retailer for the Indian designer) showcased more than 50 outfits, including sarees, lehengas and gowns, from the Sabyasachi Fall Runway Collection, which was previewed for the first time in Houston.
“The response was incredible and overwhelming,” said Dhume. “I started spreading the word about this event to my immediate network of friends about a month ago, and I could not believe how many women were eager to attend and get a first look at the designer’s newest collection.”
Sabyasachi Mukherjee is the ONLY Indian designer who has been invited to showcase his lines at all THREE of the major fashion weeks in the world — New York, London and Milan. His design philosophy is simple and clear: “Clothes should just be an extension of one’s intellect.” Sarees worn by Bollywood actresses such as Madhuri Dixit, Sridevi, Deepika Padukone and Bipasha Basu were showcased at the event.
“We are so proud to be the official U.S. retailer for Sabyasachi’s clothing,” said Barkha Jayaswal, the owner of Atlanta-based Bollywood Closet and Sabyasachi’s childhood friend. “After organizing sold-out trunk shows in New York, Los Angeles and Dallas, we wanted to test out the Houston market. Based on the phenomenal response, we will definitely be back.”
