South Asian Youth Alliance Holds its Maiden Event: Coffee with The CEO

HOUSTON: South Asian Youth Alliance (SAYA), an initiative of Indian Muslims Association of Greater Houston ( IMAGH), was launched on April 27, 2014, to help the South Asian Young Adults, find mentors, develop leadership skills, build a peer supported network, and learn about their heritage. SAYA’s goal is to have young representatives from India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan as its members.
SAYA had its first event, Coffee With The CEO on Saturday Nov 8, at the Marriott Westchase . This event is a discussion based series with CEOs from many different companies coming to share their success story. This was Chaired by two great entrepreneur brothers, who grew up in Sugar Land, but each with a different style and educational background, Safeer Hassan, CEO of Boardwalk Insurance Group and Sohail Hassan, CEO of One Stop Green.
Latafath Hussain, President of IMAGH welcomed the two CEO’s and SAYA members. He said that all young people have leadership qualities and SAYA will try to hone and polish these skills through such events. He added that focus, knowledge and dedication is the only recipe to reach career goals.
The Executive Committee consisting of Mohammed A. Khan, President, Joel Kurien, Vice President, Hafeeza Shaik, Secretary, and Nimra Haroon, Jt.Secretary, then introduced themselves. Dr. Salman Mirza Baig, and his wife Humera Baig , are very active in organizing many activities for Youth in The Woodlands area, and had brought in a great number of participants.
Safeer is the CEO of Boardwalk Insurance Group and considered an expert in the field of Property and Casualty Insurance. He is well-liked by his peers who admire his contagious positive attitude, laser sharp focus, and extremely high standards for customer service. He is also the President of the Lamborghini Club and his love for cars also motivates him to be successful.
Sohail Hassan is the founder and CEO of One Stop Green, a renewable energy company. His education is in International Affairs, Political Science, Sociology, and European Union Politics. Sohail promotes academics and advised to keep learning and growing especially in education.
After the young CEOs had shared their story, the room was opened up for discussions. There were many questions regarding business, education, entrepreneurship, internship, growing up South Asian etc.
SAYA is an organization dedicated to the development of young adults in the South Asian community.
Their second event, Coffee with The CEO is with Yani Keo, founder of Alliance of Multicultural Community Services , at Mariott Westchase ( 2900 Briarpark Dr, Houston, TX 77042) on November 22.
