Spectacular Janmashtami Celebrations by the Hindus of Greater Houston

HOUSTON: The new academic year in Houston begins with the 27th grand annual Janmashtami celebrations by the Hindus of Greater Houston. We invite all Houston families, friends and neighbors to celebrate Krishna Janmashtami (birthday of Lord Krishna) at the Hall B3, George R. Brown Convention Center on Saturday, September 10,  from 6 pm until midnight. HGH has planned special programs for all ages to make this event a grand success and the event is free and open to all.

Meet Dr. David Frowley, popularly known as Pt. Vamdev Shastry a Padma Bhushan Awardee for his work on Yoga and Vedanta, and listen to his inspiring speech and interactive session on Hinduism and the modern world, an extract from his best seller “Arise with Arjuna”.

As a tribute to Pramukh Swamiji, who led the BAPS Sanstha and took it to greater heights and prominence in the world, the BAPS  Swaminarayan Mandir  organization  will present a video presentation and an exhibition on the contribution of Swamiji.

An eye-catching Rangoli (art work) will be displayed at the entrance to captivate the visitors. The hall will be adorned with specially decorated booths, temples and will also hold some commercial booths for those who wish to shop while you celebrate.

The evening will commence with the children’s costume contest which is the biggest participation in the whole of Houston. Other children activities such as art contest, Matki Phod, etc will keep the children enthused. A cultural program of colorful Indian dances presented by professional dance schools and groups in Houston will be an audio visual treat.

Wear your Indian costumes and dance all night to the foot tapping Garba music performed live by the best singer Kashmira Nayak with Darshak Thakkar on the drums. Dance till you are tired and we expect to increase the pace of the music this year so that we can keep up with the high energy level in Houston. Other items such as, booths by various organizations, beautiful decorations, mouth-watering Indian Snack Food and more will make for a special evening.
