HOUSTON: This past Sunday, August 31, Houston area community had the opportunity to attend “Yoga and Health” presentation by Dr. Shirley Telles at India House, Houston. The talk and practice was a presentation of India House in collaboration with Patanjali Yogpeeth (USA) and The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. After extending a warm welcome to the attendees Shekhar Agrawal, an exponent of Yoga himself, introduced Dr. Shirley Telles to the audience. Dr. Shirley Telles then proceeded with an impressive talk, supported with a power point presentation explaining the effect of Yoga on health. More than 100 Yoga enthusiast comprising of a very diverse audience were benefitted with the talk. The presentation ended with a Q & A session.

Dr. Shirley Telles is the world’s most prominent Yoga researcher. She has published 108 articles in international journals. She also has written 4 books and 15 chapters in books.  Dr. Shirley Telles is a highly sought after speaker at national and international conferences. She is a reviewer for 16 international and 4 Indian national journals. Dr. Shirley Telles is the Director of Research at Patanjali Yogpeeth, Hardwar, India, and Head, Indian Council of Medical Research Center for Advanced Research in Yoga and Neurophysiology at Bangalore, a federal research center of excellence. She has a PhD in Neurophysiology and a medical degree and has been the recipient of many awards, including from the John Templeton Foundation USA, for an essay on “Neurophysiology of Mental Emancipation” and a Fulbright Fellowship to study “Functional magnetic resonance imaging in meditators” at the Dept. of Radiology, University of Florida.

The event ended with light refreshments, provided by Udipi Restaurant, and fellowship among the attendees.
